The US puts 165 billion single-use packages into the world each year.
Sounds like a lot? It is.
Before we tell you how we aim to unboggle such a ginormous number, let’s understand the ginormity. One mile is 63,360 inches. There are 2,445 miles twixt California and New York. Or 154,915,200 inches. Now let’s divide that by 12” and we could say it takes roughly thirteen million packages laid end to end to stretch across the US. Which basically means we produce enough single-use packages to lay them end to end across the United States 13,000 times. That’s a lot of packages.
We started asking, Where do they all go? Landfills. Or the ocean. Even when we think we’re recycling them. Don’t kill the messengers, it’s just how it is these days. But when you consider there’s only 300 million Americans, it works out to be 550 single-use packages for each one of us. Wow. Really? Think maybe we could do something with, say, a portion of them? Whether we will or not, the fact is, we can.
And that is why the team at LimeLoop started. To Deliver a World Without Waste. One Package at a Time.
